-glee-

So today during a very busy rush, sometime between about 2 and 3, I received a phone call. I wasn’t helping a customer so I answered my phone. This is the conversation from what I remember.

Me: This is Allison in Aisles, how may I help you?
Guy: I’ve been on hold for the past twenty minutes!!!
Me: I’m sorry sir, the store is very busy right now. How may I help you?
Guy: I’m trying to talk to a manager about my order!
Me: Well sir, I’m the aisles associate, did someone transfer you to this line?
Guy: No! I’ve been selecting random departments trying to get through. I need to talk to the manager.
Me: I’m sorry sir, I can’t transfer a call from this phone, you’ll have to call…
Guy: [interupts] I am the GM from Penticton!! Go and give your phone to the manger!!!
Me: Like I said earlier sir, the store is very busy, there isn’t a free manager.
Guy: There should be one up by the front! Go give your phone to them!
Me: She’s on till right now sir, the store is verybusy. She has a line of customers.
Guy: That’s nice, go give your phone to her!!!

The entire time he used an irritated, snappish, and belittling tone.

I decided to just cover the mouth piece, and just give the phone to Shannon. I just told her “The GM from Penticton is on the phone, and he’s a little upset”. She had me hop on her till to help the people through. I could -not- believe that a General Manager would treat someone like that. I’ve had upset customers before, but I’ve not had someone try to belittle me.

I talked to Shannon afterwards, and I asked her what he was upset about, and she said he wasn’t upset. So he was freaking out at me because I’m -just- an associate.

I was pissed off for about an hour and a half after that, then I had some fries from DQ and started feeling better. Then I told Anthony about what happened. He gave me a good idea ^_^. On Monday, I’m going to go in, and ask to speak to my GM John off the floor. Then I’ll say to him “John, I’m going to be filing an official complaint to Richard (District Manger, head honcho) about a call I got from the GM in Penticton on Saturday. I’m just letting you know and I was wondering if you’d prefer to talk to Richard or if I would be able to talk to him.” John likely wont like an associate bugging the DM, so he’ll talk to Richard himself. Meaning, my GM will talk to my DM about another GM.

I don’t have to put up with that sort of harassment, especially not from a GM working for the same company. So I’m gonna take after Dad, and climb the ladder until I feel the right thing has been done, if Richard can’t do anything about it, I’ll ask him if I should be talking to Steve instead. Steve is the President of Staples Canada. I can’t get much higher than him ^_^.

Thus the glee.
